Apply for or renew a passport

Apply at civil registry offices and Lojas de Cidadão (municipal seats), the Passport Shops at Lisbon and Porto airports (by appointment), the Azores and Madeira regional governments, or a consulate. You need a valid Citizen Card or BI. Collect where you applied or have it posted.[1]

Step by step

  1. Book on Siga/sigaApp, call the counter or take a same-day ticket.
  2. Bring your valid Citizen Card/BI and previous passport if renewing.
  3. Choose standard, express or urgent and whether to have it posted.
  4. Collect at the counter or receive it at your address.

Available during IRN counter opening hours, for Citizen Card, passport, birth, death and vehicle registration. You can also take a paper ticket on site.

Good to know

The Lisbon and Porto airport passport shops work by appointment only. In Madeira and the Azores you can also apply through the Regional Government.

    Com a aplicação sigaApp, disponível para Android e para iOS e macOS, pode tirar uma senha online no seu telemóvel. As senhas online estão disponíveis durante o horário de funcionamento dos balcões.
    Em alternativa, pode obter uma senha física no local do atendimento.
